A Fun Day at Storyland

This past weekend, my family spent Sunday at a fun, family amusement park in Glen, NH which is located just a few minutes away from North Conway, NH. The amusement park was Storyland which if you are not familiar with, is joked to be the Disney of NH. This was the second attempt this summer to go to Storyland.

The first time was last month and we ended up getting rained out as they closed the park shortly after opening. But, don't worry, we were not out our money as they

gave us tickets to come back another day this season.

Storyland has been open for quite some time and I have been to there many times, both as a child and an adult. The park is centered around children's stories and nursery rhymes for the most part with some added areas of the park based on a certain theme. You can meet Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, Mother Goose and Cinderella when visiting Storyland. The park is full of rides from the traditional Merry Go Round to the Roar-o-saurus rollercoaster plus a couple of water rides to help cool you down in the summer heat. They also have a few shows throughout the day to bring some relief from the summer heat.

Now, for my family, I have a 9 year old, 5 year old and 2 year old. The 9 year old was big enough to ride all the rides by herself as you have to be 48 inches to ride by yourself for all the rides. The 5 year old could go on all rides but the roar-o-saurus as you have to be 42 inches to ride with and adult on that one but for all other rides, you have to be 36 inches at least to ride with an adult.

The 2 year old could go on many rides aside from the roller coasters and water rides but don't worry, they have splash pads near the water rides so the little ones can still cool off and have fun.

Now as I have been here many times, I knew what to expect. There were a few rides closed which was a bummer as one was another water ride they have and the other two were popular rides that the kids and I enjoy. None of the games were open and I am sure that was due to staffing issues. We did stop in two gift shops and one had a good selection of things but the second one that you go through when exiting the park was sadly, pretty empty. Park attendance did seem a bit low which was great for us as my oldest got to ride her favorite water ride four times.

I think the longest we waited in line was probably 10 to 15 minutes which was only on one or two rides. Overall it was a fun day and we were there from open, which is 9:30 am to 4:00 pm which is an hour before they closed.

Some tips when visiting Storyland is to arrive early as the park is not that crowded when it first opens. Also, they have dining options including Dunkin Donuts, which for the early birds is handy to grab that coffee, but I recommend packing snacks and lunch as the food

is typical amusement park food and you are allowed to bring a smaller cooler into the park. I do recommend bringing water bottles as well as they have refill stations throughout the parks. Also, an easy souvenir is the refillable cup which costs 16.99 but you get free refills for the rest of the season. Bring your own stroller or wagon if you have little ones that won't want to walk the whole time as they only have a limited amount of strollers to rent out. The park is cashless so make sure you bring your debit or credit cards. For more information and tips, I recommend checking out their site, storylandnh.com. You can also purchase your tickets in advance to save some money right on their site.
