So, this past Sunday, my family and I headed up to the North Conway to visit Storyland. Now the weather was not all that great as it was raining but we figured we would take the chance. Storyland did open that morning but only for an hour and a half. Do not worry, we did not lose out on our money as Storyland gave us tickets to come back any day this season.
But, we had driven an hour and a half and did not feel quite like going home. Thankfully, Storyland has an aquarium right next door, the Living Shores Aquarium, so went there.
Living Shores Aquarium is a small aquarium and was a perfect way to kill some time on a rainy day. We paid $80 for 4 tickets as our youngest was free. The aquarium is just one large room. They have a few exhibits showcasing NH fish, otters and reef fish. They also have 5 touch tanks with nibbler fish, sharks, rays, crabs and tide pool creatures. They have a small aviary with lorikeets that will sit on your arm. There is a line for the aviary as they can only have about 10-20 people in the aviary at a time. They also have a critter wall with frogs, snakes, spiders and insects.
Aside from animal exhibits, they have a sand table that has a projector that shows different sea creatures and other fun sea items on the sand. The kids thoroughly enjoy this as the sand table is filled with shovels and rakes for the kids to use.
Right next to the sand table is a coloring table. The kids, however, don't just color a picture. They create their own sea creature on laminated paper with wipe board markers. When they are done creating the sea creature there is a scanner right next to the table and once the image is scanned, the sea creature will appear on the TV that is right above the coloring table. That is great fun for the kids that love to color and create things.
There is of course a small gift shop as you exit the aquarium. They had stuffed animals, small toy animals, jewelry, clothes, bubble wands, books and water bottles. They also have a quick service restaurant, The Bistro, near the exit of the aquarium. They have drinks, ice cream, breakfast food items and lunch items. We brought our own lunch and snacks so we did not order anything at The Bistro.
So information before you go to the aquarium; they are cashless, they have lockers that you can use right at the entrance, strollers are difficult to use in the exhibit room and no food or drink allowed in the exhibit area. Check out their website for more information, www.livingshores.com.
