Our Vacation in the White Mountains of NH

So, my husband enjoys camping and he especially enjoys camping in the White Mountains of NH. I am not a camper so we compromised and booked a lodging unit at the Twin Mountain/Mt. Washington KOA in Twin Mountain, NH. It gave him his camping vacation while I did not have to sleep in a tent. We went at the end of August, which was a bit more affordable as it is later in the season and most areas around us are getting ready to go back to school. Unfortunately, since it was later in the season, the weather was not the greatest either. It was rainy most of the time and since we were in the mountains, it was colder as well. Despite the weather, it was still a nice

vacation for our family.

We have stayed at this KOA before so we knew the layout and all that they offered. We stayed in their caboose that they have which was an interesting and fun lodging unit. It was dog friendly, so we did bring our dog along on this particular trip. The caboose did have electricity and a mini fridge. It could sleep a total of six as it had four twin beds set up as bunk beds and one full bed. I will say that six adults would probably feel pretty cramped in the caboose but my family of five managed just fine. The caboose was fine except for the smell in the closets which was just an old smell, nothing rancid or disgusting, just not the greatest smell in the world. The rain and damp weather did make the caboose cold and damp but they do supply a space heater and fan. It was very close to the bathrooms/showers, pool (which we did not get to use due to the cold temperatures), playground, dog park and office/general store. It was a nice lodging unit but I definitely was happy to get home and sleep in my own bed.

The KOA, overall was very nice. The bathrooms/showers were always clean. The pool and pool deck was clear and clean. The playground was safe and up to date. We took the dog for a walk around the campground many times and the whole area was maintained and beautiful. I recommend if you can staying on South Hill or taking a walk up that hill as the view is beautiful. They have a few cabins and then a lot of camper/rv sites up that way. They have a second dog park in that area plus a hiking trail as well.

The White Mountains are

filled with things to do and see, from lakes to swim in and mountains to climb to shops and sites to explore. This time around, due to weather and the dog, we started our trip with a stop at Chutters in Littleton, NH. It is a candy store with a candy counter that is 112 feet long. It is a cute, little store with tons of stuff from candy to books and t-shirts to buy. Littleton is a quaint, small town in the White Mountains with a busy Main Street filled with shops and restaurants. If you have read the book Pollyanna, The Glad Store is right on Main Street along with the Pollyanna Statue. For my husband, fishing is what he enjoys, and there are plenty of fishing spots from lakes to rivers. The rivers are all over so you just need to find a spot and then park for most areas and you can fish all day. The Cog Railway is another place my family likes to check out. We have yet to go on the railway but the base station is nice to check out, with a little museum section to show you the history of the Cog Railway. It is free to check out the base station. On this trip, we checked out The Christmas Loft in North Woodstock. This was such a beautiful store filled with so much Christmas stuff. They even had a little Halloween section but if you love Christmas, this is definitely a store to check out even if you don't buy anything. The last place we went was to Santa's Village, a Christmas theme park that was 15 minutes away from the KOA. That will be discussed in a different blog post so make sure to look for that one.

The White Mountains is a beautiful place to visit with tons more to do besides just what we did. I highly recommend it if you enjoy mountains, nature and the great outdoors. #neverlandingtravelbysara #whitemountainsnh #thechristmasloft
